The 41st Annual Bud Light Cowboy Downhill
Nothing says Steamboat like cowboys on skis! That’s what Billy Kidd, Director of Skiing, and Larry Mahan, six-time All-Around World Champion cowboy, were thinking when they made the decision to invite some of the ProRodeo cowboys up to Steamboat for some serious fun on the slopes. Forty years later the Downhill has evolved into a signature Steamboat event, as over 100 professional rodeo cowboys flock to the ‘Boat for one of the most unique events in the West!

The 102nd Annual Winter Carnival – Our Favorite!
Mention a parade and fireworks and people say that’s typical. Talk about adults on shovels being pulled down main street behind horses or skiers jumping through fiery hoops and people stop to listen. In Steamboat Springs we do things differently, and with the oldest, continuous Winter Carnival west of the Mississippi, this event is certainly no different.

Mardi Gras
Laissez Les Bons Temps Rouler-The good times are definitely ready to roll in Ski Town, U.S.A.® when the Steamboat Mardi Gras Festival comes marching in from February 12-17 with free concerts, parades, a Cajun BBQ and Mardi Gras party and more. Throughout the celebration, food enthusiasts can
enjoy Mardi Gras themed lunch creations across the mountain.
The festival culminates on Fat Tuesday with an all-day celebration featuring snow sculpture contest at the chair-lifts, restaurant contests, special activities, and plenty of beads to go around.

Artists and art instructors from the community seek to empower others through teaching of a variety of classes and workshops here in Steamboat Springs.

Biking

Diversity is the name of the game in Steamboat Springs, with something for all levels and all riding preferences. Hop on the family-friendly Yampa River Core Trail for a relaxing cruise along the river. Explore our scenic cross country singletrack or hit the Steamboat Bike Park and downhill trails on Mount Werner. The smooth country roads offer endless rides through the Yampa Valley. With a variety of two-wheeled adventures up for grabs, how will you bike the ‘Boat?
Snow Biking
During the winter, Lake Catamount, Howelsen Hill and many other areas allow snow bikes on their trails. Snow biking is a rapidly growing sport where bikes with larger and fatter tires are used to enjoy the snowy trails.
Riders can also rent fat tire bikes at the Lake Catamount Touring Center.

Cross County
With hundreds of miles of singletrack across just about every type of terrain imaginable, Steamboat Springs is a cross-country mountain biker’s paradise.
Rising above downtown Steamboat is the easily accessible and infinitely exciting Emerald Mountain, filled with technical, rewarding rides topped off with scenic views. Trails throughout the Yampa Valley wind along babbling creeks, across meadows of wildflowers and take you to the top of the Continental Divide.
Downhill
The Steamboat Bike Park features over 50 miles of downhill and freeride bike terrain for all ability levels, bringing a new high intensity biking environment to Steamboat. Trails feature everything from dirt jumps and rock drops to wooden features and dirt berms, all accessible from an enjoyable ride up the gondola.

The Jump Park

Cruising
The Yampa River Core Trail is a 7.5-mile paved multi-use trail that runs through the heart of Steamboat Springs and along the Yampa River. The Yampa River Botanic Park, Alpine Slide, Howelsen Ice Arena, horseback rides, tube rentals, the Bud Werner Memorial Library, restaurants, art galleries and downtown shops are easily accessible from the Core Trail. Gold Level Bicycle Friendly Community
Biking in Steamboat is a lifestyle and a community-wide culture. The American League of Bicyclists agreed, naming Steamboat Springs one of 18 cities nationwide to earn a gold level Bicycle Friendly Community designation in 2013.
Snowshoeing
Tour the mountain via snowshoe at Steamboat Ski Area or elect to explore other areas of the valley on foot. Customize the trip for however many hours you would like to spend walking on top of the snow and the tour guides will be happy to accommodate your preferences.

Howelsen Hill Ski Area has sent more skiers to international competition than any other area in North America. It is Colorado’s oldest ski area in continuous use (opened in 1915), and has the largest and most complete natural ski jumping complex in North America. Howelsen Hill offers a variety of amenities year-round in Steamboat Springs.
Snowmobiling

Tubing!
Come to historic Howelsen Hill for the ride of a lifetime! Ride the magic carpet to the top and come screaming down on a snow tube. Snow Tubing is a new aspect of an incredibly exciting hill with all of the winter sports activities including nordic jumping, a terrain park, alpine racing and freestyle moguls and aerials happening all around you.
